1
From the church gate on to the road, turn left and shortly you will reach the farm track on your right. Walk along the track, over the stream and fork right straight afterwards. Follow this track to a gate before a junction of three paths and take the left track.*
2
Bear left with the main track . Follow this track through the plantation. Cross the bridge over the stream and go up the hill, bearing right where another track joins on your left. In about half a mile you will reach another track junction of 4 tracks. Take the track third from the left through the wood.*
3
Follow this track for just over half a mile till you get to a stile (Roppa junction). Cross the stile and head NW on the shooting track. The track turns N and you follow it for 2.8 miles from the Roppa junction.*
(Please note- on the map and the OS link there looks to be a short cut from this track. We have tried it and wouldn’t recommend it!)
4
Continue on the shooting track until it bears left. *Look for the St Aelred’s Pilgrim Trail sign to the left. If you are using the OS link this will be very helpful at this point as the shooting track you are on has replaced the bridleway indicated on the map.
5
Continue ahead on the path till you reach a gate which takes you through to a pasture and downhill towards High Crossett Farm.* Please be aware that you may encounter cows in the fields approaching the farm.
6
Follow the waymark arrows downhill *until you see High Crossett Farm on your left. Go along the track through the farmyard and continue with farm buildings on your left along the farm drive, turning left to reach the B1257. Turn left here to the Church of St John the Evangelist, Bilsdale. Please be aware that the B1257 is a busy road but the grass verge is wide enough to walk along.
